Intermittant cooling fan question...
Lately, the cooling fans on my girlfriend's 87 924S have intermittantly not come on when they should. They work normally about 95% of the time but twice in the past week, they've not kicked in and the temp gauge has climbed up near the red zone. Luckily, she's a car-gal and cranked the heater on inside the car to keep the engine cooler but I really need to get this problem licked.
So, is it a fan switch? Relay? Temp sender? Any and all help is appreciated!

Fill and bleed your cooling system. The temperature switch to the instrument is on the block and the thermostatic fan switch is in the radiator. When the engine warms up rapidly, it takes a few seconds for the hot coolant to get to the radiator T-fan switch and if your coolant level is low, it won't trigger the T-fan switch so the fans won't turn on.

The coolant tank is indicating halfway between the two marks. Wouldn't that show that the fluid level is fine? The system hasn't been uncorked since having the belts done last year at the dealership.

if the coolant system isnt bled, then you may appear to have that much fluid, but youcould really have half the fluid you need in there. When changing fluid, i only got 3 quarters of a gallon in before the reservoir was filled, then by the time i was done bleeding, i had 2 gallons in.
