Default Help Water pump Block-off

So I read some posts that say the block off is the plastic elbow that came with my water pump. Problem is it is exactly that an elbow. air or water can flow through (I looked and tested). So I am confused at how that is a block off, and would think it would just flow right out that elbow? Someone able to explain or did I get an elbow and not a block off?

If the elbow has been drilled out and water can flow through it, then you have received a turbo water pump. Exchange it for a non-turbo water pump..

The water pumps are the same, the plastic elbows are either open for a water cooled turbo or closed for a dry turbo or a non turbo car. Perhaps you just need the blocked elbow instead.
Some places include a blocked plastic elbow and call it a blanking plate, as in this thread:

Just get a piece of 1/4" aluminum and make one. It'll look like a much cleaner installation.

I had the original water pump (still good) changed out for the new one last year and the blocked off elbow looks crap. An aluminum plate, or better a 3-d printed block off would be a significant improvement.
