I purchased an ’87 944 Turbo from a friend of a friend a week ago it is in need of some LOVE and rebuilding. The previous owner had the car up on blocks for the past 2 years in a garage collecting dust. He snapped the original driveshaft at the weak point. While he was waiting on the new one to arrive, he decided to rebuild the car and purchased these parts to replace on it.

With all of these parts, what other parts do you suggest? I have the stock clutch, but I plan on replacing it. We plan on using the car as a track car (road course), and as a daily driver on nice days. We would like to make 300 HP and 350 ft. lbs. torque. I understand that I will need a new mass air flow system, since the stock one is so restrictive, but I am not sure which one is the best to go with the parts I already have.

Do you think we should pull the engine to put the new rings and bearings in? We were told that it could be done in the car. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, as I am a new 944 Porsche owner and we are striving to have this car perform close to that of our ’01 BMW M Roadster.

You can put new rings and con rod bearings with the engine in the car (and the head removed). You cannot replace the main bearings in situ.

Hmmm, if you had a TurboS with the larger K26/8 turbo, you could get 310rwhp & 350lb•ft torque @ 18psi for about $1500 with our GURU MAP-2 kit and larger injectors. The max for the smaller K26/6 turbo appears to be around 260-270rwhp.
