My old mechanic's shop was called "PMR RACING"...the frame looked pretty cool. My new one says "Autohaus"--which looks like a dealer name! Bummer.

FYI--Each time I went to a different mechanic, they switched the plate frame and swapped in their own! Autohaus just left their frames on the back seat. I thought that was classy...so I put them on the car.

I guess I am in the minority--but I kept my dealer frame--it is simple black with white lettering reads "Auto Palace" on the top and "Pittsburgh PA" on the bottom--the "Pittsburgh" is the main reason I kept it on. The weird part is that when I bought the car originaly--Auto Palace just sold high-end used (mainly Ferrari, Lambo, 911, Lotus, etc..) but now they are a factory Porsche dealer.

Pittsburgh--gotta represent

The Porsche dealer that I bought mine from put a license tag frame on, I took it off the first week that I had the car. The next time I took the car in for service they put another one on.

When I told the Dodge dealer to leave my new Durango naked, he said:
"Well, we would give priority service to a vehicle we knew was one of ours"
I hesitated for a second.. He almost had me..and then said:
"Well, I guess I'll be seeing how ya'll treat strangers!"

When my girlfriend and I went to pick up her new Cavalere (all we could
afford at the time), I told the dealership that if there was a sticker on the
car, or cheezy license plates frames, we weren't picking up the car.

I swear, they snuck them on AFTER we signed the deal.

We were walking out to the car and I'm like WTF is THAT!!

I pulled off the sticker in once piece, went up to the dealership front door,
and stuck it on the glass right in front of the store manager and the
sales person.

I was just flaming pissed...and they just stood there with their coffee and
didn't even blink like having a customer slap their dealership sticker
on the plate glass happened every day...

Speaking of which...I need some nice plate frames for my 924S. I think
I might splurge next month after rent and bills are paid.

These came with the car when it was new. Maybe I need to lose them?

The local Porsche dealer will do state inspections for free if you have one of their license plate frames. Still haven't gotten one yet....

We DO have a customer slap our sticker on the window every day... j/k.

We average about 110/month. Typically twice a month someone will ask us to leave the sticker off. The only time they ask me to leave the license plate frame off is when they have their own, typically.

We just do them because your average driver (read: not you guys) is too lazy to take them off and/or doesn't care. So it's free advertising for us. Why not?

I actually asked my mechanic for one of theirs. Come to think of it he looked kinda confused. At any rate I like the shop and don't mind promoting them. BTW it's ProTechnik. They also have one of my computers in their shop with my company logo. They buy from me, I buy from them.

I sport a "Buxton Motorsports" license plate frame as I hate the way a plate looks without a frame, and I dislike porsche logo frames. And hey hes a rennlist sponsor!

My mechanic put on one my car. I'm afraid if I take it off he'll get even the next time it's in for service!

ok - license plate frames by CHOICE are different!! if you want to support your shop or place of business, thats cool - and a great use of the frame. but i just hate how dealers slap them on other peoples property. but...i'd do it too, if i were a dealer since most people ARE too lazy to take them off.

instead of a frame, i run a smoked plastic full plate cover. with a black car it makes the plate blend in a bit more. i've run it for years with no problems.

sam - you can probably see it in that pic of the turbo badge that i sent you.

will you post a photo of that? you can blur the numbers. I just want to see how that smoked cover looks on a black car. you can pm it to me if you'd like. I have the dealer frames from 17 years ago,. some place in sacramento. I keep them there cause i cant afford a nice one, and i like it better then no frame. I run no front license plate.
Is there a NICE rennlist one? classy, not cheapo plastic?

I took it one step further on my wife's Passat. If the dealer's going to put a sticker on my car, I'm going to use it to make fun of them. The dealer we bought it from is called Earnhardts and their slogan under the name is "NO BULL SINCE 1951." I strategically removed some of the letters so now it says Earnhardts: BULL INC.

Personally I think it fits them much better anyway and I've taken it in for service once like that. I doubt any of the actual workers cared, they probably think it's pretty funny in fact given the pompous attention ***** sort of way the owners love to be in their own TV ads.
