Unhappy Anyone "get emotional" when selling car?

Today is the day I finish the sale of my 98 Jeep.

I have found it to be really sad day. Sure selling is the right thing to do, but all memeories make me sad. I purchased it new in 1997. I ordered it to my specs and picked it up on 12/31/1997. I drove it for 87,700 miles with about 20-30k miles being fun Camping, Backpacking, Mountain biking, and four wheeling trips. I personally researched my lift for 6 months and installed it myself as well as all the other upgrades.

Yes it is sad day for me when I think of all the good times the Jeep brought me.

Am I crazy or have any of you guys felt such a sadness.

Absolutely. I have great memories of all the cars I've owned, and even some my folks owned. Heck, even some my friends owned. I keep my cars a long time so letting one go is like saying goodbye to an old friend. At least you have 4 944s to keep you company

You aren't crazy at all. And I could never part with my truck either!

...89 Montero V6 LWB. Few basic mods, nothing special, but she has surprised the heck out of the local Jeep and Disco clubs around here! Very capable little machine...but DAMN that IFS!

The racing thing is a lot of fun...but I need the outdoor excursions to keep me sane! Why the need to sell her?

Getting married and 4 other Porsches... I had to sell something. Not too long ago my Fiancee and got a 2003 ML320 to use for her daily driver and our trip vehicle. Much better car for her while losing he hardcore fourwheeling of the jeep. Of course I have not wheeled the Jeep in over a year and a half and can get by with the limit capabilites of the ML. So It was on to selling the Jeep. Now that the day is here and I must part with my trusty friend ...

I was emotional at the sale of my 944. Car was with me since I was 16 years old....lot of good times in that car....and now it's gone.

Sure I have a 951 that is in much better condition....but still....it was really hard! I don't think my girlfriend understood....

Sorry to hear it...but hey, getting married is worth the loss of 1 vehicle since you have so many others to get you in trouble...errr, keep you busy!

She must be a great lady...I am always impressed when I hear stories about gearheads and car addicts finding a woman willing to put up with all of our crap! Of course, we all know it goes BOTH ways, right?

Congrats and best of luck!

Yeah she is pretty cool. I told her about feeling bad about selling the jeep and I really think she understood. Still have to sell it, but I think she know much had invested in it memory wise.

Of course keeping the race car is big deal!

HA HA ... my g/f and I are looking at houses. She gives me *the look* when I start salivating over 3 car garages. She's a little bit of a wrenchhead (has an engineering degree), but not as much as me. Cool thing is when I said I'd have to get some tools for the garage, she said 'only if I get some cool tools of my own'. She's so awesome!

I still don't have a courage to sell my GTI just like that, it's been standing since september.... One kid came over to look at it with his friends, as soon as i heard "dis thin neefs 19iz and a blov off yo" i just said that the car isn't for sale and waved good bye! It's like a part of me and i can't just give it away to somebody who'll abuse and neglect it. If a rightful car nut shows up it's his for the taking It's not all about the money. Just like buying an NA with rusted through fenders and pouring $5000 to get it to a perfect condition... damnit

I always take a little part of each car I've sold and keep it as a memory.

Nope, its a hunk of metal, and you will own plenty more hunks of metal that will provide just as many good times.
