Angry Can't the thing off!!!

Ok I was pulling the sensors to see what the hell is up with them (One read .999 ohms the other read 0 ohms). So we get back there and take the bolt off the sensor, no big deal. Then we figure we have it all done and the sensor was ready to remove.

We start prying and pulling on the thing, it doesnt even move! We took a crowbard and tried to pry it off, that didnt help. We just ended up breaking the sensor in half. Is there anything i missed when im taking it out? All that i saw was one bolt holding it in, so all i removed was one bolt! Did i miss something?

PS. Its the reference sensor

just that one little hex bolt thing should be holding it in. its ust a really tight fit. its like a piston. it wont move unless its moving evenly, you can just be pulling on one side. I twisted it in place so that the part the bolt goes into was overhanging the edge of the mounting bracket htat they are in then i put a LONG flathead on the putton of it and tapped it until it slowly mad its way out. but i also had the torque tube out of the way. so you may not be able to access that.

First, I'd like to congratulate you on getting a crowbar in there. That's an accomplishment.

Just the one bolt. You have to twist it as you pull on it. Did you get it out?

Lol. We removed the intake manifold and fuel rail. It wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. While i had the manifold off, i cleaned about an inch deep of 18 year old Oil and dirt. I didnt know this, but the engine is actually a silver color under all that crap.

We got the bolt out, that wasnt so hard. Then we just tried to force it out prying from one side, didnt work.

Oh yeah, this is kinda interesting, after we pulled the manifold and cleaned the engine up, we found a fly that was covered in oil and almost perfecly preserved! It was nasty, that fly is probally older than me.

I made the mistake of waiting until I jacked the car up for a clutch replacement to remove the sensors. I had to use a step ladder to climb up far enough to lay across the engine. Not a good idea.

These things get brittle. I handled the connectors gently and both still broke. I just put electrical tape on them and they work ok. The sensors seem pretty robust, though, so you might be able to pad the sensor with a rag and twist them gently with a pair of water pump pliers.

BTW, was the car running with those resistance values? Supposed to be 600-1600 ohms and >1 megaohm between pins.

I sprayed a little WD40 on the sensor as I twisted it. Seemed to really help the stuck ones.

The car died before i even knew what the sensor was. So i only got a change to see them with the car dead. It would reach 1 ohm, but i think its mesauring it in like Megaohms. The multimeter has an M OHM sign on it, so wouldnt .999 = 999 which is in the 600-1600 range?

The other sensor, the reference sensor just flatout had 0 ohms.

.999 M Ohms = 999 K Ohms = 999,000 Ohms
