Default spare relay

Anyone got a spare sun roof relay (J18)??

pn:
944 615 117 02 89 84 31
12V
300mA

Mine fried today and I am unsure if it's because the motor is dying and that it's putting excess load on the relay? Is that possible?

I can't go to Hershey if my roof can't close... This sucks.

Thanks

Don't know but I know how you can close your sunroof. If your motor still works then you can make yourself a wire so you can jump it in the relay box something like you can do to see if the fuel pump is working or the DME relay. I forgot which slots you need to put the wire in but maybe someone will know. Let me check if I can find the information.

Theres a way to close the sunroof yourself. You just take a wrench and turn some little bolt thingy that is right under the relays. It was in the porsche manual that came with my car (my car is an 86)

Thanks for the picture.

It's not that my sunroof is open 2 inchs, it's that it won't lock back into place.

When you the ignition switch at the first position, you can remove the sunroof, right? What happened is that while I was driving, the sunroof unlocked itself as if the ignition switch was at that first position! Next thing I know, it smells burning relay!

Any more ideas?

You should be able to follow the same procedure for manually shutting the roof and just turn it the other way and this will raise the arms to grab the roof. That would be the quick fix to secure it for now and then dig into the problem later.

After thinking about it a little bit more I wanted to add that there should be a switch that should stop the sunroof motor at the proper place. It sounds like this switch didn’t stop the motor when it should have and the motor kept on trying to run and overheated the relay. So I would hesitate to put another relay in there till you get it figured out. Or if you do try another relay be listening to see if the sunroof motor is trying to run when it shouldn’t and pull that relay quickly if that happens before you fry another one. You may find that yours isn’t dead just cooked a bit.

Like you said.. I don't want to risk it! It costs 206 CAD new (150 USD) from the dealer. The sunroof motor another 800 CAD! That's crazy.
