Question Suspension question

my car is mainly a street car but about 5 times a year i plan on taking it to the track. I was wondering which one of these setups would be the best bang for the buck for my situation. I can handle a stiff street ride

paragon products Fr. Coil Over Kit with 300lb springs
29mm Torsion Bars

or..

250# Weltmeister Springs
28mm Torsion Bars

I have an 86 944 turbo

also my koni shocks seem to be in good shape still

thanks for the help

Try to see if you can raise Skip at Paragon (by phone also). He seems to have a good understanding of how to match up what you want with what you need.

250's and 28's are probably the best street/track compromise.

M758,
I'm looking at possibly autocrossing my daily driver. Have you made any improvements to your car that helped without class penalties?

Swede, 250/28 would be my pick as well. If you're not extracting optimal corner balance for competitive events, the adjutable ride height kit is not needed. Lately, some folks have been overwhelmed by the amount of lowering you get from the Welt 250# springs - approx 1.5". With the ARHK, you can set the ride to anything you like - cost diff is +$125. The ARHK is available with 250# springs.

Lou, tires and shocks are the best bang for buck legal mods for stock class cars in autocross. Most stock rules will not allow spring or some sway bar changes.

Well for Zone 8 rules...

For GS you'd want to run R tires. 225/50's on 15"x7 or 15x7. Kumho Victoracers are a good autocross choice unless most guys are running hoosiers. Size gets you 2 point and R-compound another 2 points

Then you can probably do springs any rate legal for another 2 points so that you are still under 6.

My 83 is GS car (we don't run GSS in Az as there are not enough cars). Only "mod" are 225/50 Yoko ES100 street tires. evertthing else is stock. Fun car. Sure it rolls alot, but it is interesting to learn how to deal with. I did put in new shocks. That helps the control alot, but it still is soft. I just drive the **** out of it at the autocross.

If you want to go GP class then start building a spec type car. That is good for GP class.

If you haven't already, buy an extra set of wheels and put race tires or (DOT legal) R compound tires on. Sticky tires will do more for you at the track than suspension mods with not-so-sticky tires.
