Default Porsche of North America car values (for insurance) please help ASAP

Hi... I just got an appraisal of $2500 from the insurance company for my '83 944! It was in truly excellent condition with a rebuilt motor. Full records going back over 10 years. Paint was in great shape, car was really good.

I know it's not worth a ton, but it's more than $2500! They went off some "bargain trader" ads to determine that price. I say it's worth at least $3000.

Somebody mentioned they used Porsche of North America pricing to help with insurance. I will be in contact with them tomorrow, can anybody direct me as to exactly who I need to talk to?? Thanks.

My PCA subscription expired while I was deployed to Iraq. I hope they can turn it around fast enough for me.

I have an 89 S2 39,000 miles on it and just got it appraised for insurance. They made me take 20,000 worth of coverage on the car. Not too bad since I bought the car for 10K. I was really happy with that!

When I bought the car they sent an insurance agent out to visual inspect the car. She was there for over an hour....it was like a PPI or something. Checked all the numbers, windows, etc. However, I have specialty insurancec for the car also so maybe that has something to do with it.

Ask Tom R. how he did it (or search), but he had to battle the insurance co. when his S2 was stolen. I think they gave him an estimate of like $8k and he got it up to like $15k or so (still not what it was worth, but better). I'm probably way off on the #'s, but you get the idea.

i told you what you have to do the day of the accident. pretty close scootin. i went from 9 to 15.

Here is what you have to do. you have to prepare an appraisal. an appraisal with comparables. that mean you have to look for similar cars in your area. there is an 83 by me for sale with 75k miles, original clutch, belts changed at 60k which may be 10 years ago for 5600.

take that car as a starting point, add 800 for belts, 1200 for a clutch and you instantly have a 7500 car. oh his doesnt have leather, add say 200 for leather and your car is worth 7700 if it had 75k miles. now he converted the ac to the new stuff, you didnt, so deduct 300, say he has new tires, you didnt, deduct 400 now we are at 7000. you get the idea. i used 10 cents a mile for the first 50k then 3 or 5 cents after that.

i didnt have a cracked dash, petes did. i added 700 to what pete paid for his S2 to get the dash in the conditon mine was in etc.

i used a spreadsheet that highlighted the new things in my car like $1000 for shocks and ball joints (550 shocks, 200 ball joints, 250 installation). i pro rated the clutch for 100k or 12 years (made it easy at 100 a year).

start the research then send post what you have and i will help you some more.

i may start a thread with my theory of determining the value of an NA.
