A little help please??????? Axle
Ordered a axle from 944online for my 1986 Turbo. The axle came tagged 1988. It does look a little different as the end plates on both sides are little skinnier.
Can I use this axle my car?

I'm pretty sure the axles for the '86 and '87 on are different. PET shows them with differnet part numbers. The '86 turbo uses 944 332 038 01, which is the same as the '85 1/2 + 944 with manuals trans. The '87 + 944 turbo uses 951 332 038 02. What the change is I don't know.
Is there a part number on yours?

Part number on the new axle is 951 332 030 1. Funny doesn't match either of yours nor is it on PET. Seems to fit just fine. Wheel rotates without any obstructions or play. I'll torque it down take it out for a spin and see if anything is funny.

Torque'd down fine and the initial run seems to show that the car runs fine. I'll re-torque after another heat-cycle and see what happens.

The 1999 Parts and Technical Reference Catalog has the following footnote:
"CV joints and axles that were in production up to VIN 95HN151524 are not available. If repairs are necessary both axles should be upgraded to 951 332 038 02."
I seem to recall that the later versions purport to be stronger. Are you sure you are not mis-reading the 8 as a 0 on your axle?
