Default Putting engine back in conundrum 86 automatic

Hello

I have a 1986 Porsche 944 N/A automatic finally putting the engine back in the car. Unfortunately I am having a bit of a conundrum, I took the damper and starting ring off which were held on by a spacer sleeve and a circlip. I ended up bolting the damper and starting ring to the flywheel then I was then I was gonna put the bellhousing on an just slide the engine back into the engine bay and bolt everything back onto the torque tube then I realized that I need to put that spacer sleep and circlip back on. What's the correct procedure I've been stumped I guess I could put the engine on a dolly and slide it back until every is close enough to start bolting the damper into the fly wheel? Any help would be appreciated. I have a parts engine that still has the bell housing on the back so I'm not sure how that guy pulled that one out.

This is the sleeve and c clip

this is the damper with the sleeve and clip on the torque tube

that's what the bellhousing bolts on to

damper bellhousing and starter ring

I bolted it onto the flywheel and used a feeler gauge to set the .80 mm for the sensors.

I was really hoping to finish this by this weekend. Thank you in Advance!

Benny

The damper must be installed (circlip and ring) on the drive shaft / bellhousing end of the torque tube. The flywheel remains on the engine / crankshaft. When the two are brought together, the 9 bolts from damper to flywheel are installed through the starter opening, rotating the engine to each location.

Yes! That's how I took it apart and initially how I put it back together but i couldn't get the flywheel close enough to the damper 🤔 maybe I didn't line it up properly. Back to the drawing board.

The driveshaft may not be in the correct longitudinal position relative to the torque tube.
The proper position is measured at the transmission / torque converter end of the tube.
The dimension is given in the WSM. I can post the spec later if you don't have it.

I think that might of been a reason.
