Default engine 924s - 944

Guys my 944 has a 924S M44 / 07 150hp engine on. How could I get 163cv in that engine?

if i change the camshaft of a 944 could i improve some more power?

163 hp is the factory number for RoW 944 from 1982 to 1987 model years.

I suspect (though I don't know) that the camshafts are the same. The pistons are what's different (higher compression on the 163hp motor).

Personally i feel the lower compression is an advantage for the 924S. Not so sensitive to fuel and the engine is running less stressed, considering the age of the cars I think thats a plus.

Besides, its only like 12HP, I think theres better ways to make up that performance instead of tearing the engine apart to change the crankshaft or pistons. Such as weight reduction, and changing the exhaust system.

The factory designed the engine for the higher compression, they just lowered it for the US cars, so it’s perfectly capable of running reliably at 10.6:1cr.

12hp may not sound much but it’s a big power gain for a 2.5na. There’s no exhaust system that will give you that and reducing weight has no effect on hp.

Op, as stated the difference is in the pistons which were 10.6:1cr, there were also changes to engine management and many Euro cars came without cats, so those all contributed to the increased hp.

Just seems like overkill to me to go through that amount of cost an effort just to get 12HP.

Of course reducing the weight doesnt add power, but its an easy way of getting to the same power to weight ratio. If youre tracking the car against other 944s 12HP is a lot sure, but then why worry about just getting it back to "factory" spec if youre going to part out the engine, might as well optimise the entire motors while you are at it and build it up to more than just 944 factory stock.

Ahh yes, forgot about that part. My car does indeed have an additional resonator where the US cars have a cat.

Be sure it's running to it's potential.
Shave the cylinder head.
Advance the camshaft timing.
MAF conversion with tuning.
Inject nitrous oxide.
