I’ve been using this oil since 1984 when it first came out. There has to be a reason it’s still in production!
Yes sir, that was me! You know what it is!!!
These engines need fluids that were around when they were made. The synth stuff is great for modern engines because that’s what they were designed for. I had a 1969 Beetle for years and use the same. Ran like a top.

Totally agree, these 70s and 80s German engines weren’t made with super light weight synthetics in mind. They need something thicker, especially when it gets hot. I’ve always lived in the Southeast and now in Texas, so every start is a “hot start” lol.

Damn straight! LOL
I’m in the lone star as well south of Houston. What part are you in? I could use a 944 friend in the area.

Seems like zinc or ZDDP would be good for our cars, but there are concerns with its effect on catalytic converters.
Stumbled across this ZDDP replacement additive (without zinc)... anyone have any experience with this?

ZDDP (Zinc) levels are an additional consideration with oil selection, now that most modern oil blends have slowly reduced zinc levels over the years. Castrol's conventional GTX 20w-50, once a crowd favorite, now only provides 780-900ppm zinc, where 1200ppm is a more appropriate target for the 944 engine. Here's a 2022 list of some of the more popular "high zinc" oil options on the market...
