Default Strange turn signal failure

Hi all. Hoping for some ideas before I start tracing wires.

I recently got my 968 on the road after quite a bit of belts/seals/variocam/water pump/new head gasket/new vacuum hoses maintenance.

Before started the work my turn signals worked fine. Now they won’t do anything.

Fuses are fine and swapped out the relay - no change.

The only clue I have is this: with no key in the ignition and activate the left or right turn signal the turn signal will light up solid. With the key in when I activate the signal it does NOT light up.

High beams work with the stalk.

I’m not sure where to start the troubleshooting process - anyone have any insight?

thanks!

You are turning the key to the "ON" (ie RUN) position, correct? With no key in ignition & door open, you'll get a response flipping the turn signal on (door chime & signal light on solid for me). With door open, key in but only turned 1-click (ie Accessory--not turned all the way), I don't get anything. Key all the way to "ON" works as expected

I would need to look at the diagram but the flasher relay, in vw fashion, works in conjunction with the hazard circuitry.

when you say you replaced the relay, would that be the flasher relay? the 'off' portion of the cycle, the flasher relay shunts the power through a resistance to ground. you might check the particular grounding point for the relay if the hazard switch activation is also malfunctioning.

I've never checked to see if these cars have the euro spec standing lamps for parking.

I'm fairly sure they do (US-market cars that is; euro-market cars definitely do).

My sincere apologies daditude and wished I had something constructive for you. I posted this on the wrong thread. Had a momentary loss of oxygen to the brain. Hope you get this worked out.

Mike
