Default Proper Coolant Level??

I've searched the forum but can't find a definitive answer. What's the proper coolant level in our 944 NAs? I have a 1986 and recently saw an under-hood pic on BaT of an 85.5 that seems to be carrying a LOT more fluid than mine.

In the pic below, you can clearly see fluid level. The light blue line is where I see my fluid level. My temp gauge works . . .and my engine temps never float beyond gauge mid-point.

Feedback?? Thx.

In the picture above, you can clearly see the minimum and maximum level marks molded right into the reservoir. Cold, you have a tiny bit too much (but not enough to worry about.)

Agree that looks about right! On the upside, at least you car has a coolant reservoir that you can actually see the fluid in! Most of us have tanks that are so brown that seeing the fluid level is impossible. What I do is open the cap when cold, and looking straight down the coolant should just be visible through the hole. Optimally just barely wet directly below the cap.

So….that pic is not mine. It’s the one from BaT. My level is the light blue line drawn in. I guess I need to add more coolant.

Thanks

That would be true- add coolant while cold until you can just see the coolant looking straight down. That is approximately the right level.

I'm not alone. I adore this forum there will always be people with the same problems and then you do not feel so stupid or lonely. You really don't have to worry, you can really see the liquid! For example, my motor trader tank is so dark that sometimes you need to check for the right amount of liquid with just two lights. I tried to look straight down to see the coolant but am I blind or do I have such a tank.
