Default Blue/Linen Dash Wanted!

Hi,

I have a 1989 944 S2 in Baltic Blue with the rare Blue/Linen interior. Unfortunately my dash was cracked under previous ownership and it is now covered by a black Coverlay dash cover. I don't like it and would like to get another blue dash...

I wasn't going to replace it this soon, but since I am pulling out and replacing the aged windshield, it seems like a very good time to do replace the dashboard.

Anyone have a line on a good blue dash (preferably out of a 968)??? Please keep your eyes peeled next time you're at your local wrecking yard and let me know if you find one.

Thanks,
Dan

That's going to be a tough one to find.
I have a blue dash also and I had to get a blue coverlay for it. I have pics of it in my gallery. The color is very close even though it doesn't look that way in the pics. I think it was the flash that did it.
I'd like to see pics of your car if you have some.

Kinda like this?: (It's a two tone blue/black dash) The missing shift boot is dark blue.

Has anyone fit a late model dash in an early model? If so, is it hard to do?

Yeah Dan!

Mine looks just like that one. Are you selling it???

If not, do you know where I can find such a dash in perfect shape? Sometimes I think this is like finding a needle in a heystack, but this is a pretty big/active group. Preferably a 968 dash too!

Okay... here's another question. I have a line on a perfect dark blue 968 dash for about $800. Seems pricey, but given my alternatives, I might actually pay him, if... and it's a pretty big IF. IF I can pull the lower (Linen colored) bottom pieces off mine and replace the blue ones on the other dash with them. I would think this would be easy to do, but some people I talked to earlier seemed to suggest the whole thing is one unit and cannot be seperated individually.

Can anyone confirm this? Anyone done this sorta thing before???

Thanks!

Oh, and I'll take some pics of my S2 this weekend and post them.

Any more info from the blue 968 dash front?

My question IS...

Can I get a whole blue dash out of a 968 (I have a line on one), and then swap out the lower pieces with the Linen colored pieces from my old dash???

Anyone done this??? Behuler, Behuler...

Oh, I tried posting some pics of my car, but the ones I took are just barely above the file size limitation for attachments. CRAP!!!! Anyway to "trim" them down in file size?

Thanks!

Open the file with MSPaint, Press Cntrl+W, Change the horizontal/vertical settings to something smaller, once done, file->save as->JPEG->OK

SeattleS2, your car looks just like mine, only nicer.
Mine has a totally blue interior, though.
One question: Is the "944S2" emblem on the back of your car black? Mine was silver and every other Baltic Blue car I've ever seen had silver emblems. I have a new black one that is going on mine after the repaint is done. The black looks better IMO.

Tough to find, but you may be able to take a dash of another color and dye it to match. SEM vinyl dye works great.

I have been thinking of taking the dash for my 84 944 NA in for repairs:
http://justdashes.com/index_home.htm

Here is a quote last year from these folks:
1984 944 Dash Pad Restoration in black $800, in color $850. Glove Box Door Restoration in black $120, color extra. Console Restoration in black $250-400, color extra. Cores and color sample needed. Turn around time is 8 weeks.

SeattleS2:

Sounds like they can do color matching for you. The plus side is that you will be getting a freshly covered dash for almost the same $800 price you will pay for a used dash. Of course, you will need to factor in shipment.

Hey 944Pete...

Actually, my car had a full repaint a few years ago... and they put the old (silver) "944 S2" badge back on, and the S2 had fallen off... so, I ordered a new one. I had a choice of either silver or black new... and I like the black plastic badges! Just have to be careful to keep wax out of them. Thanks... I like the looks of them too! I can't wait to see your car when it's done... sounding like quite the restoration!

Anyways, my daily driver was an old Jeep Cherokee, but my head gasket blew on it a few weeks ago, forcing me to drive the S2 daily... And, since the weather has been so nice, I've been loving it!!!!

Thanks on the tip about the JustDashes restoration service. Wow, $850 plus shipping sounds pretty steep! I can buy a new one for $1200, so it's getting up to NEW cost for a "refinish"...

Anyone have any luck with this??? What is the quality like? Does it come out looking like new?

Anyways, I actually really would rather have a used 968 dash!!! Reason being that they changed the dash materials and they supposedly are very resistant to cracking (unlike the 944 dashes, which all seem to be cracked)... So, my question was... AND STILL IS...

Can I pull the "linen" lower dash pieces off my 944S2 dash and replace the blue bottom ones from a blue 968 dash with them??? Does everyone understand what I'm asking???

I want to know if the dash is all "one piece" or can the lower pieces be removed seperately and replaced with another color. Supposedly "linen" was not an intetrior color for the 968, so I'm looking for a formidable solution.

Thanks!
