None of what you've invested in this car is depreciating anywhere near as much as if you had spent that much on a new car, however, you realize that it will be much harder to recover your money.

If at all possible, I would keep the car.

I know I'll take a beating if I sell it, but I think I have to list it up for sale just because it seems to be the best thing for me at this point in life.

We will see what happens....

Thinking about it I guess I would consider a '44, 24S, or 51. I just need to get cash as part of the deal.

Why not sell some of your expensive parts and keep the car that you already know everything about? Just a thought.

I can't see how if you're looking to replace your modified 951 with a stock 951 or 944, how that will be much benefit to you financially. I can understand if you are selling to upgrade to a better Porsche, or buy a house, or recently, someone sold theirs because they felt they moved on from sports cars. But making a quasi-lateral move doesn't make much sense to me.
I think if you love the car and after what you've put into it, find a way to keep it or store it. Buy a cheap beater and use the savings on storage!

I might consider selling some of the items off and putting the car on the shelf, but some of the unique items are hard to price:

Brakes
Torque Tube
Seats
and the Turbo Kit has lost too much in value to try and part it out.

The wheels could get sold and I might throw it on jackstands just to get the credit car balance back to the back..... but we will see....

And as for the quazi lateral move with the stockish 951, well if I got a check of enough value it would be a good thing for me at this point in life, but like everything else with this its up in the air.

Would you consider a trade for a tricked out 83 with blown engine? Perfect canidate for a 968 swap. It's a long shot, but what the hey.

I have no idea, even vaguely what your car is worth, except that it is beautiful, to consider making an intellegent offer. If I could afford it and my parents agreed, it would be straight up cash, I have no other Porshe to offer). It's close enough distance wise.

If you get an idea of the cash you would like, please email me at Withstrsinhereye@yahoo.com or post.

When was the timing belt changed? (I probably couldn't afford it it it needed a belt in the next year).

Frankly, as much as I would love to have it, assuming I could afford it, I feel compelled to tell you I think you will regret selling it!!!

This car is a lot of Porsche for a first Porsche. Not to dissuade you in any way from buying it if you can afford it and want it. Just be ready for all that comes with owning such a car. I have an 87S that has been my daily driver since 1999 and I have HAD to learn how to work on it (did my own clutch among other things). This car is what I aspire to own when I am done working over my soon to be 951.

four days till the flight to Oregon and my first 951. Notice I said first...

Lisa,

I will send you an email with what i'm looking to get out of it, but the two post above are correct, this would be a lot of car for a first 944. I did start with a stock 951 as my first porsche, and learned a lot on it, each progressive car has gotten more aggressive in its state of tune, from working on it, to driving it, I'm glad I started slow.....

I think Blue S2 said it best- life moves too fast- I mean, WTF is 3 or 4yrs anyway? I know you & I have talked a few times over the past few years about these cars & look at it this way- I've got ~$28K in mine & it's nowhere NEAR as well modded as your's & I wouldn't sell it for any less than ~$18k- that means, i will never sell it, b/c NO ONE would EVER offer me that much- but STILL, even if I did- I'd be losing $10k right there- sure, I've had it for 4.5yrs, but, they haven't been the best years- I'm hoping the rewards will start showing themselves soon... not trying to talk you out of anything though- YOU'RE the only one who really knows YOUR situation...

good luck, whatever you do...

Although I have just started thinking about a 951, I have been a Porsche fan since the late '60s. I am also in the Raleigh area - Cary - and would love to take a look at your car.

Have you arrived at an asking price?

I have the car listed at 18k, and I do know that is high for a '44, but again this is not your average '44, and I would be willing to come off a bit for the right buyer, but it would have to be the right buyer.

The car is still in Charlotte right now, but should be here in Raleigh in the next 3 weeks.
