Default Radiator Top Seal

Hey all,

I’m replacing almost everything on the cooling system of my ‘86 951. Water pump, hoses, clamps, radiator rubber bushings, etc.

One part that is NLA is a seal (rubber? foam?) that sits on top of the radiator (part # 944.556.837.00). I’ve found pics of the part on the internet but from the pictures it’s difficult to tell the material type and the dimensions of this piece. I think the length would be something that sits between the two upper rubber mounts but could be wrong.

Does anybody have one of these lying around that they can measure and also tell me what the material appears to be?

My understanding is this is just a piece of high-density foam that sandwiches in the radiator to prevent too much vibration. You could buy the part number or run down to your local hardware store and pick up something like this: High Density Weatherproofing Foam. 1 - 1/4 inch worked out great when I replaced the radiator on my 924S. I've been told the turbo radiator might be slightly taller? But I think the width is similar. I would recommend getting as thick as possible, since the material compresses to about 1/2 the height.

Hopefully this helps!

Definitely helpful. It looks like compressible foam/rubber in the pics I’ve seen. It also looks about 1.25 to 2.0 inches in pictures. The pics of new parts I’ve seen also have a piece of double sided tape to hold it on the radiator. I’m guessing just for install as it would be easily held in place while compressed once the radiator is fitted.

Exact dimensions would be great if someone has them.

Rob-O, I wasn't sure either where/what that piece mounted to. I decided to mount foam weather-stripping onto the shroud that meets the top of the radiator. This made the most sense to me as it would help direct all the airflow thru the radiator & prevent any hot air from the intercooler to flow thru the gap.
