Needed to replace my 90amp alternator (early 944) on my 944 race car. Obviously read up on all the nissan quest options, but could not find a suitable alternator here in the UAE.

I went to a huge auto electrical shop repair shop here and found something very interesting

Bosch alternator for Ford,CA324IR,0120469009,0120469512 (kava-auto.com)

Basically the body and all the fittings on this alternator are identical to the one supplied with early 944s. The only problem is the front plate which has the holes for the adjustor is on the wrong side.

Simply get the shop to put the front of your original one on to the new alternator and the pulley and you have a brand new alternator for less that $150, rather than paying over $500 (if you are lucky) for an original reconditioned one !

I believe that this is equivalent to what @H.F.B. has found, but with parts that are available in the US, or at least labelled for US models.
