Default After Three Years............

Today is April 8 and three short years ago today, the Rennlist Forums went “live, on-line” using a UBB forum format and sharing one server and one single high-speed circuit among all the other Rennlist sites/servers. Assisting with the Beta tests (which on-line 5/29/01) were a handful of folks – Viken, Gert, Loren, Phil and a few others. At the end of the “Beta Test” we had 23 of you assisting with and improving features before we went “live” on April 8, 2001. And at the end of the first year? The Rennlist Forums had about 8,000 Registered users.

Today, in those 3 short years – things are a bit, umm – “different”….

We are nearing 23,000 Registered users. There are over 1,178,000 archived posts and, at many times throughout the day, we have many hundreds of folks on-line at any single point in time. Personally, the phenomenal growth and success of the Rennlist Forums speak for itself – and lends credence to the “community” that has developed within this area of the Rennlist site. And for that – that’s to your credit – those who call this “home” or their “club” or their “community” and participate on a daily basis.

Are there other Forums out there? You bet there are – and some are terrific assets and a credit to Porsche owners and enthusiasts alike... For example, PelicanParts is probably the “grand-daddy” and still one of the single best – and with close to 22,000 Registered folks, it “is the place to be” with mid-series 911 and 914 owners and numerous other active Porsche Forums. (BTW: Wayne also has some terrific BMW Forums you might want to “check out”).

Many 996 and 996 Turbo owners hang out on Rennlist as well as CFG’s Forums at Fun Cars On-Line. Chris has done a terrific job maintaining and improving his Forums, and along with PelicanParts – has offered his Forums for years.

Want a Forum dedicated to later model Technical Discussions? Loren’s excellent RennTech Forums is filled with technical information, DYI information – and some great photos in the car of the month.

Boxster folks? You’ll find them hanging out at PP Boxster Board and The Boxster Racing Board - along with a few brave Boxster folks that continue to post to Rennlist 986 Forum (you should see some of those threads ).

My point is – Rennlist certainly isn’t alone. There are many Forums out there and each unique and each with their own personality.

But as for the Rennlist Forums – I’d still know it’s perhaps not only the largest by any measure – but continues to be one of the best. And to be able to make that simple statement, again – is a credit to each and every person that has made “Rennlist your Community”.

So to the Members, Sponsors and to all the folks from throughout the world that “just hang out” here and read and enjoy - Jen’s and my thanks…
