I painted my cam carrier with black wrinkle coat as well. I actually couldn't find any locally, so I ordered the stuff from Eastwood. Their tech support said it would handle the temperatures expected on the cover. One thing I will warn is that the can says it will dry in 12 hours. Um, plan a little longer. I used a space heater and a infra-red bulb to get it to harden up nicely...

I had the cover bead blasted, but i really didn't go crazy prepping the surface. The wrinkle coat sort of negates having to get the surface smooth.

Also, Eastwood sells an aluminum polishing kit that comes with various grits of sanding tips, and various bobs with polishes. It's about 35 bucks, but it seems pretty comprehensive, and would probably do up an intake nicely. I plan on doing mine sometime this summer...

I think original finish, cleaned up and in good shape, looks best by far.

Everything else looks tacky to me and probably reduces the value of the car.

But they're your cars, so go for it.

I'm going to use a thermal dispersant coating on mine. Local coating shop can do it, owner is an SCCA type so I think I can trust him. The color is black with a hint of green. I don't mind that on a race car, all I care about is function. I think the good doctor said it best: "Form follows function".

Then why coat it at all? Wouldn't just exposed metal cool better and be lighter by that precious one ounce???
