Yes an aluminum alloy crossmember that bolts up to the underside of each side, where the engine brackets rest on the engine mounts.

Above or below the motor? If you mean the lower cross member, its necessary to have that piece in the car or your engine will probably fall to the floor and your control arms wouldn't be able to bolt to the car in one corner. Finally, you wouldn't have a steering rack because there will be nothing it could mount on to.

I'm sorry I'm talking about above the motor. I see it on some but not on the others. I know the 928's have them. I was just wondering about the 944's

If these are what you are talking about, then no. They are aftermarket.

Yep, aftermarket. They're called strut tower braces or camber braces. Idea is to keep the strut towers from flexing during cornering. We found something out the other day. Had a car that the intake had to come off. Had one of our braces on it. So we unbolted one side. Put the car on the lift. Did the work (some work under-that's why it was on the lift). Tried to put the brace back while on the lift. Bar wouldn't line up with the hole! Lowered the car off the lift. Lined up again. They will spread!

Waldo-

You can't beat the price on this strut brace. It works wonderfully and there is a very noticable difference in the front end during sharp turns.

An awesome bang for the buck.
