Just wanted to post a follow-up and keep everyone up to date on the selling status of the 944. A while back I posted that I was buying a new house and the 944 had to go (much to my dismay). After the orginal post, Tom R. contacted me and wanted to buy the car. We talked about price and logistics and made plans to possibly do the transaction (New York to Michigan, etc.) We both agreed that $5000 was a fair price, but we wouldn't be able to do the transaction anytime soon.
Not shortly after that, word got around work that I was selling the car. I was contacted by one of the lawyers who said his son was looking for a "Porsche." I told them that they were welcome to come look at the car in storage. Later that evening they showed up, and within 15 minutes they offered me $5500. Because I already talked with Tom, I told them that I would think it over and speak with Tom since I gave him first rights to buy the car. They countered with an offer of $5750. Still, I told them that I wanted to give Tom an opportunity to counter the offer.
I contacted Tom, already knowing that $5800 was out the range that he was looking to spend. Like the gentleman he is, Tom respectfully accepted the fact that I got the higher offer and suggested that I sell.
So, I sold it! It's gone. I already miss it! Considering I bought it for $4000, put $500 into wheels & tires, I thought a $1250 profit was still pretty good. This car is a testimate to the fact that nice 944s are hard to find in Michigan. In other regions, $5800 might get you a decent Turbo - but not in my neck of the woods. The buyer had spent quite some time looking without luck (until he found mine). Most cars were high mileage, bad paint, beat to hell, too expensive, and/or all of the above. I always figured mine to be a pretty nice example, and personally I thought it was worth closer to $6500. But, I was happy to get $5750. It was the easiest car I've ever sold - with all the documentation, it pretty much sold itself! That's why having those records is so important - it's like gold when it comes time to sell.
I want to thank everyone for being so nice here at Rennlist - it has truly been a joy and hopefully I'll be back in the not too distant future. Thanks again guys!

Congrats on the sale. I know how you feel, I had mixed feelings when I sold my 85.5 but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
It looks like it was an extremely good example. I hope you can find another as nice when you're back in the market.

Thanks Tifo. It's oddd how a car get get inside of you (figuratively speaking) like the 944 does. It's kinda weird. I've owned Vettes, Camaros, Mustangs, 240, 260 & 280 Zs, Fieros, RX-7s, MGs (list goes on... for a while) and nothing has effected me like the 944 (I always want to call it "The Four" for some reason.)
I was quite overly protective of her during the selling process. For Christ's Sake - he didn't even test drive the damn thing! I'll probably feel the same way when I buy and sell my first Ferrari.

Glad it worked out for you. I'll get over it.
Good luck with the house. If you run into any snags drop me a line and I will tell you what the deal is in NY. the rules shouldn't be much different in MI.
