My friend had one the way you just described. It was in great shape and only had 65k on it. Only had it for a year, which he sold it last summer since he was going off to the army. He was one of the Rangers that helped save that Jessica Lynch girl and he has some crazy stories.
But about the car, I liked the looks of it but his was an Auto and I did not think it was that fast. He put a boost controller on it and upped it, which made it a little faster. Weren't the 5spds much better in the acceleration department then the autos?

Having Owned 4 of these cars I feel obligated to put in a good word. They are great. in fact, here in my office I still have a print shop fresh sales brochure and a little model of my red 84 turbo. I cried they day I sold her...but then came the 944.

They are so solid and WAY WAY more plush than the '44. Handling is on the heavy side..because they are heavy. Speed is good with the turbo. I used to spank NA 944's with no problem. I saw some post about engine being hard to work on...true in most respects. the VG300T is relaible as hell, but try getting to the radiator, or the turbo or the timing belt...and so on. The digital displays have problems that you can fix if you want. Look at z31.com it is the rennlist for those cars.

Oh about the rust...like I said earlier I have owned 4 80's 300zx's never had any rust problems except in the A piller due to a clogged drain pipe from the T-top on one of the cars. They were great construction.

I have also owned 2 70's 280's...yes serious rust boxes and noting you can do to stop it.

Nissans since the late 80s have been very rust resistant. Nissan does a great job now on torture testing their components. A good friend of mine is a Nissan engineer involved with the accelerated weathering program. You won't find much better.
