Default Wipers turn on by themselves!

I recently got my '87 924S back on the road. It had sat undriven for 4 years (I was fighting cancer). Now, my intermittent wipers come on by themselves at various times i.e. when I start the car; when I use the turn signals. It doesn't happen all the time, although today my normal method of curing the problem, flicking the wiper lever up and down, did not solve it. So I removed the int. wiper relay. Is it just a bad relay? BAD RELAY!!! GO TO YOUR ROOM!! Or has the whole wiper switch lever device thingy gone bad too?

On mine, it was the switch, not the relay.

You might pull the relay, clean the connectors, dab on a little dielectric grease and see if that fixes the problem.

The switch is realatively cheap and easily replaced, too.

My wipers did that once, I actually had to use the wipers but when I turned them off, they didn't go off.

I pulled the switch assembly off the column, and gave it a good cleaning and lubed it back up. I haven't had any problems since then.

A word of warning though, there is a couple of springs and bearings in the switch assembly, so if you do take it apart, be careful not to lose the springs or bearings as they'll attempt to shoot out when you get it apart.

My wipers act up also and it was suggested to check and clean grounds which I did. But the wipers will take a single swipe when the headlights pops up or when I go over a bump or sometimes, no kidding, when the engine revs to 3500. I just think its old age.
