@Gage : It's like you've been living in my garage the past few months! Except I think that most of what you outlined has genuinely been necessary for my car.
Hey there Mike, thanks again!!!!!!
The plan is to finish the transplant by this weekend but in the meantime, more detail work needs to be accomplished.
New felt on the end plenum box (944-572-065-00):
As well as along the AC blower Fan unit:
One of the very few non-OEM items I've installed (I have another thread pertaining to this install) is a hidden radio unit that I've secured in the cruise control module mounting bracket. My 84 is a very low optioned car so it didn't have CC, which made it a perfect place to install the audio unit. With the center console removed, it was easy to tidy up my original install, as well as install some foam to minimize vibration.
No SAT, just FM and thumb drive... I think there's a Bluetooth option but I only really wanted to hear my songs really. It's not bad (not the best sound quality but my car didn't come with a radio from the factory so I just wanted something to fill in the gap. Please be aware that it's only a 2 channel system (4 channel is NLA).

Not to dwell on this, but wouldn't it have been easy to fit a regular radio where the cubby is? I don't know if that cubby is removable, but even if the whole console needed to be changed, good used ones are around. I received a nice one in brown from DC Auto a few weeks ago to replace the hacked up one that came in my car. The Porsche Classic radio is a good match with modern amenities-albeit at a steep price. I would've gone with it, but they don't offer satellite tuner control, and I didn't want any other gadgets tacked onto the dash or console.
I'll never admit how long it took but let's just say I'm glad I had the day off with hardly any interruptions. The biggest issue I ran across was lining up the dash to the center ventilation plenum. The entire dash assembly kept moving to the left about 0.5 cm. The good news is that all the felt pieces I replaced made for an incredibly tight AC/ventilation system (all ready for my duct inspection...).
Gage: Please PM me if you're still interested in the old dash and I'll send pics.
