What are they thinking? Where would you drive a stolen limited-edition car like that and not be noticed?

Whoever said it earlier is probably right, it was probably planned

This sounds like an expensive joy ride. The car will show up sooner or later abandoned "in the stix" of MA, like was said, hopefully not burned like John D.'s 951.
Them darned New England Porsche thieves!

I doubt it. You need a title in your name with no liens to put a vehicle in a container to ship off shore.

As far as I know this happens quite alot here in the U.S.
Stolen cars shipped over seas.

Luis, to legally ship a car, yes. For an organized vehicle theft ring? No. Happens all the time to expensive cars, very likely happened here.

OK, so how/where would they unload the stolen car? I shipped a 944 with a U.S. VIN that the European receiving port wouldn't release until a 24H police investigation and a letter I got from Porsche Germany determined that the car was not stolen.
Cars are stolen all the time in Spain and Italy, but as I understand it they're usually trucked across borders to Eastern Europe, not shipped in containers to ports, like legal merchandise.
Plus I'm talking about run of the mill upper end cars like Audis and BMW, not supercars like a GT3.

Luis,
You were going the legal way. organized crime makes payoffs, etc to get stuff through the ports.
How close was the dealership from a port? Not to be pessemistic, but if it's close, then it's probibly gone.

When my RX7 was stolen from Manhattan in 1990 the cops told me to look for a burned car in NJ, or in the containers on the pier. They also told me the container my car was in was probably on a boat by the time the police report was entered into the system.
The 944 is the least desireable porsche. There are plenty of cheap parts cars. all the body panels have a VIN on them. it probably costs more to have someone steal the car then it does to buy a parts car 944 legitimately.
My 944 was either stolen by joyriders, choppers, or was shipped overseas
So if my S2 was stolen by joy riders why wasn't it found on the side of the road somewhere and 944s are simply too plentiful and old to be worth chopping. therefore, it was probably shipped overseas where they are less plentiful, and worth a lot more than they are here.
the technical term for getting things past guards when you dont have the proper papers is graft.
The GT3 is probably in canada now ready to go to the middle east.
