Default Rear Hatch

Anyone here ever re-sealed the glass for the rear hatch to the frame?

I saw the article on pelican parts on it but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

Someone just posted a big long story about this over on the 944 board...probably a few pages in now. Try a quick search and you should find it. He glued the glass down and couldn't get some screws back in, so it would do good to read his experience so you don't do the same

Haven't done it myself,, but one word of advice from observation of the list is... if you reseal it make sure you line up the screw holes before the glue sets! you cant drill through the glass as some of us have already found. i think i saw someone use some 3M adhesive.. but i could be wrong

I know they say its a Do it your self, but I would take it to a glass company and have it done its real easy to make a mistake and half the time you end up not sealing it right. I had quote before I got a whole new hatch and it was not a bad price like $100-125.

Thanks for the link, that was a very good read. I think I will stop and ask a glass shop about it tomorrow. For $150 or less I'll let them do it Friday and I can spend this weekend finding and hopefully fixing my power steering leak and oil leak.

Makes sense with the leak getting worse, the guy I just bought the car from replaced the rear hatch struts, even though they still don't hold it up.

I just hope his mechanical skills were better than his electrical ones considering some of the repairs he made to the car.

I took mine to one of the big glass companies near me and they didn't want to touch it! Then I was given a recommendation of a smaller company and he didn't want to do it either but he sealed it with some urethane and I will see how that holds up otherwise I guess I will try it myself.

Theres a write up on Pelican, but after reading how someone earlier had theirs "delaminate" into a kazillion pieces all over his garage floor, I just paid $150 and had mine done.

That was me....Fubared all right. Thanks to 91S2 for selling me the one off his parts car. Got to thinking about it, and if it happens again, and it probably will, I am going to go to a glass shop, and if they won't guarentee the repair for the cost of the hatch (right, never happen) ask them to guarentee it for a lesser value, comparable to standard work that they do, say $300. Then if they break it, you can pick up a used on for 2-300, or less if lucky like me (thanks again Al) and you are not out anything but some time. Can't hurt to try....

Hmm,
Well I found someone that will do it. $145 plus an extra $65 an hour if it ends up taking longer than expected. Shouldn't be over $300.

The up-side is that he has done several of them.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Hey Shutemup,

can you PM or post your contact that can do this and let me know how it turns out??
Mine has the ugly sticker part peeling and has not separated but knowing of a local place would be very helpful. Thanks

I'm in Fairfax in case you are wondering.
