I found that no shops in Memphis will gaurantee this work. They all say if it breaks, it's not their fault. Anyways, it was also like $180 around here to get it done, and it took them asking the head glass guy if he could even do it. I'm thinking of just trying it myself, and if it gets messed up, just buy a new one.

I've done it a few times now, its not that tough... one of these days I will post an FAQ on it. Basically use 3-M Window Weld and take your time...

I have yet to have a repair fail or break glass.

For $300 you can get a new hatch from Parts Heaven.

For the time being, I got a tube of silicone glass sealant, the kind that is supposed to flow well. I put it in a syringe for re-filling ink cartridges and filled in the gaps inside and out.

I know it won't work long term but hopefully it will keep it dry long enough for my carpet to dry out and give me a chance to be 100% positive that there are no other leaks.

Then I will decide if I want to doit myself or pay someone else.

I'm sure I would have more patince and pay more attention to detail doing it myself, but this guy has done several before......

Hmm, $300 for a new hatch???

brand new glass and all??????

If that is the case I will definately do it myself

You might want to chck that again... $300 will probably buy you a used hatch that will have the same problems all the other hatches are having. Parts Heaven is good, but I don't think they are THAT good. New hatches are MAJOR $'s.

I don't know about the condition of the ones they have, but that's the price they'd given to me in the past... shipping could cost you an arm or two maybe, and they could be junk, I haven't got one from them (yet)

If you redo the hatch yourself or take it to somebody to do you should know that the glass guy who put urethane where my hatch was leaking said once you put silicone on glass urethane will never stick to it. I don't know how true that is but if I were you I would just make sure it is cleaned up real good when it is torn apart.

If you are just looking to keep the water out you can do what I did on my old hatch. Take a long piece of black electrical tape and run it along the top hiding the ends under the spoiler trim then seal it with a heat gun. Worked on my old hatch to keep water out.

Do you mean silicone seal? Hard to believe, but you'd have to make sure you scrapped the old stuff off.

There are several posts with detailed DIY instructions on how to do it the right way.

I just masked off the top of the glass and metal on the outside leaving 1/8 inch of glass exposed, then ran a bead of silicone sealant along the gap and forced it into the gap between the metal and glass with my finger. It's lasted two years so so far, silicone seal is pretty strong stuff and it lasts.

I would have done it on the inside too, but it's a pain working there. Mine wasn't leaking but it was getting noisy. The silicone seal got rid of the noise.

The guy said silicone caulk so I am not sure what all he was talking about. Like I said if it were me I would just make sure you get it all of before you do anything else to it then.
