You are lucky the failed water pump didn't cause the belts to break, resulting in a blown motor. Even then, parting a nice car like that makes no sense!

Fix it!! Get a new windshield too. It's a great color combo--never saw one that color grey before!

I agree with everyone, the work that needs to be done is relatively minor, if not routine. DO NOT PART IT OUT!! It's a beautful car.

Hmm - well how do I go about getting the tools that 944Pete mentions?? "gear puller, a 3 foot breaker bar, cheesehead sockets, a flywheel lock, and a belt tensioning gauge (9021 or Kricket, etc.)
"

Gear puller for the crank sprockets- I picked one up for $12 at a local auto parts store.
3 foot breaker bar- I bought a 3 foot piece of pipe at Lowes for about $6, it fits right over a 1/2" drive ratchet.
Cheeseheads can be had at any local auto parts store.
Flywheel lock-You can improvise one but I personally feel safer with a good one. Paragon and Pelican sell them.
I bought a Kricket KR1 at NAPA for $10. I'm sure a local 'lister has one or a 9021 tool that you could borrow..
Like I said, Brian Perry has all of the above and he could do the job in his sleep (almost). Send him a PM. I'd hate to see you give up the car over what really is just regular maintenance.

Josh,
I've got all the tools you need since I just did this same procedure to my car (plus some). I could come over and help you out one weekend. Nothing to it! Call me.

I wish more of you guys (and gals) lived near Green Bay. If so, my 944S would be running!

What would it take to get the Milwaukee/Chicago gang up here for a weekend to install some bearings? Engine is already out.

Lets make a 944 Tech Session of it! I'll come over for a weekend to help too. I love to spin wrench (though, usually on motorcycles) and have NO problems helping you out. I'm not brining brownies or banana nut bread this time though... :P Just don't plan it for the same weekend Brad wants to do his motor...

I've done this job before and am willing to lend a hand (and tools). Between the tools and the people, you shouldn't have any problems finishing this job in a weekend. I am busy on the weekend of April 17, but am free pretty much any other weekend.
