944 N/A Specs?
I've been trying to find accurate specs and times on the 85+ model N/A, and what I've found is just a bunch of varying data. With an estimated HP of somewhere between 143-168 bhp and 0-62 times from 6.8-8.2 sec and 1/4 mile times ranging from 14.8-16.3 sec, and a top speed between 132-148 mph just wondering if anyone knows exactly what these cars will do stock. I know that I pulled about 142 mph at about 4600rpm when mine was stock. And as far as 1/4 mile times I have no idea. If you know about any of these specs please post.

I can narrow it down a little,
For HP, Porsche rated the 85.5-87 at 147, 148 or 150 HP depending on the source, Porsche used to be known as a company that would rate conservatively, ie; the worst one would meet the spec while the best was above and beyond.
Most Sources that I've seen put the NA's top end at 132 to 136, most 944 speedos are horribly inaccurate, 142 on the speedo is probably only 125-130 (shoulda kept going ). If you have the owners manual you can check the "speed in gear" chart in the back to see what 4600 rpm is in MPH.
0-60, Most sources quote ~8.2 sec. One magazine came up with 8.9. They aren't easy cars to get off the line, maybe the mag test driver didn't master it. You should easily beat these numbers if you don't mind a little clutch abuse.
1/4 mile, don't bother, it's depressing and there really isn't any sport in driving in a straight line anyway.

Getting her off the line isnt really a problem, in fact i jumped a '98 Mustang GT pretty bad until about 50mph, that was completely stock w/ my struts and shocks pretty much shot. Considering the mustang has roughly 2.1 liters and about 50hp on my 2.5L. And i imagine with my new stage 3 clutch and light wieght flywheel i'll be able to fend a little better next time, maybe 70mph?

Just for ****s and giggles I'm going to take Argento to the drag once when I finish and break her in. I'd like to see what the ol' 3.0L can put down. Only once though. Dragging a 944 is useless.

I can understand the fact that you guys arent all for drag but when your out on the weekend cruising and are stopped at a stop sign and a muscle car or ricer starts revving at you, you cant really tell him you'll race him around the block. Right? It's also a nice feeling to tar up a car that is made for the staight line if yours isn't, right? And of course if i was so worried about dragging then why not just drop in a 350 small block it's been done b4.

Another theory is:
- if you beat a muscle car with a 944na, it wasn't really a muscle car.
- if you beat a ricer with a 944na, he only had the wing - typical, but not worthy of a "kill".
- if you focus on the road ahead, no time will be wasted looking out the slightly less useful side windows except for gauging the best line through the next set of twisties.

HAHA nice advice Skip...
Matt, let us know how that goes, will ya?
For anyone who didn't catch what Dave was saying, I believe he was being sarcastic; a gutted cat gives you more power.

There is a reason in track driving they tell you to look far ahead.
One of the local tracks uses its drag strip as main straight.
You come from behind it and get on the strip right where the "tree" would be. Man that is the MOST BORING section of any track I have driven. All up to when you get into the braking zone. Then things get interesting. I once had a black Supra blast past me there on the inside there. Then all of sudden he gets on the brakes and starts to slow down. I wonder why as I drive by hit my braking point about 100 yard laters.
And then last night it was funny.
I was driving in 84 with my fiancee. It was dark and we came up to a left turn light. Road had 2 left turn lanes. Next to us on the right a Cayenne pulls up. I noticed a middle aged guy was driving as it pulled up. Light goes green for us to turn left and we go. I do my normal gently 1 to 2 shift as I round the corner. Just as we straighten out the Cayenne guy (was a turbo) stands on and rockets away. I am thinking "man that was cool" and my fiancee says "Why do they all sound so crappy like that?"
And then this one time at band camp.....

actually straights are good for more that gauge check. Here is my routine
1) Check Mirrors
2) Check gauges
3) Tighten shoulder harness
4) Drink some water from my drink hose
5) Watch the high HP cars go by
6) Go through steps 1-5 again
7) Anticipate the fun part (braking zone coming up)
8) Enter braking zone and Have fun!
