I ended up having them painted as the powder-coating shop told me they were a few months behind schedule. As for the upper bearing mounts, I'm going to return the aftermarket units and go with genuine Porsche parts.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
So I had some time yesterday afternoon to start assembling the struts.

50 ml of fork oil:

Strut housing secured to my spare engine stand:

89 ft/lbs, as per the manufacturer...

Tomorrow (Sat) a buddy of mine will be coming over with his spring compressor so I'm hoping final assembly can be accomplished.

i've been dressing the seals with 303 and using a bit of silicone paste on the shafts.

do work the shocks in a vertical position prior to installing the spring. you can match the rebound also

303 is labeled as an 'aerospace protectant' for vinyl, rubber and plastic.

in my mind, it will keep the seals softer longer. https://www.goldeagle.com/product/30...ce-protectant/

Sounds great, thanks for the tip! I also would like to know if I should apply a little grease on both ends of the coil springs that rest against the lower and upper spring caps? I'm hoping to assemble the strut assemblies this weekend.

Did you reduce the torque setting on the ratchet to compensate for the tool length? I doubt that the torque for the gland nut is critical but you clearly have interest in getting everything done correctly. Nice job.

Ok guys, I've encountered an issue during re-assembly. The upper bearing seems to bind up when I torque the top nut down to 57 ft/lbs where the actual strut cartridge pivots with the bearing. The rubber bearing housing is completely seated into the top mounting plate. I've done a little research online and it appears that the assembly needs to be preloaded (wheels on the ground to collapse everything). Is this correct? Also, does the top nut get torqued after the car is on the ground? Thx for any advice!

New rotors/pads (again)... I found gouges in the new rotors I replaced a few months back. What's that saying...? "For every door that closes, another opens..." I think it's more aligned to: "One step forward, two steps back."

The other issue I discovered was that the passenger side spindle had a slight side-to-side wobble when exerting some force by hand. It couldn't be the wheel bearings as I also just replaced them a few months ago so further investigation ensued... I ended up finding some movement at the inner tie rod ball/socket. The driver's side tie rod was replaced about 3 years ago by the local independent shop, which talked me out of replacing both sides (in order to save some money). Another foolish decision on my part, but at least I'm replacing this side myself.

Another part ordered!

Great job Patrick. I’d think you’d do the torquing of the key suspension fasteners with the car on its wheels and carrying its weight.

I’ll be tackling my 924S’s struts in the next week or two, going with red label Sachs inserts; I also plan on trying the aftermarket rubber bearing mounts spec’d for an 88 VW Fox. After disassembly and prep, I’ll probably paint them in the same gloss black two-pack urethane I’ve used on many parts of this project.

best, John
