Don't do the LED's - my opinions:
1. Whiter light ruins your night vision. Not cool.
2. The color temperature doesn't match the rest of the dash. Very not cool.
My suggestion: LL158 bulbs are 3.4W, 25% higher than stock. More than enough light output to let you see in the dark without blinding you. I don't have to turn the dimmer all the way up to see the gauges in the dark and they match the rest of the dash. Perfection

I just completed my board that does PWM for LED lights that uses the stock rheostat. You can go from full bright to completely off. Without it, the dimmest is about 60% of full brightness.

Finished this project.
In addition to fixing the odometer gear, replaced...
-14 mini bulbs that light up various messages & warnings on the instrument panel: Instrument Panel Light Bulb - Osram 2721MF | FCP Euro I don't think any of them were burned out, but since I was in there, I replaced them all.
-4 warning bulbs as noted a few posts up (from dealer)
-3 main front illumination lights: 194 LED Bulb - 5 LED - Miniature Wedge Base | Super Bright LEDs Here, I decided to go LED to keep the heat down since I was initially going to go with 3.8W incandescent bulb. I went with 3500K color to match other dash lighting. These bulbs are 30 lumens (dimmest LEDs i could find that fit these holders), and they do dim from max to about 1/2 intensity. Below is a photo with the brightness turned down about 1/2 the range. Photo makes it look a bit brighter than it actually is. I'm satisfied with the result! (I also redid the light guides by wrapping them in metal / shiny tape.
(and most importantly the odometer & trip meter move!)

I am apparently an idiot. I removed the instrument cluster to brighten the lighting and I'm removing my dash as well to recover. However, in my rush when removing the instrument cluster, I've not kept track of where A, B, and C connectors go on the back of the dash. I don't see any labels on the back of the dash itself but fortunately the connectors are labeled. Can anyone tell me?

So I marked the connection that is vertical as ‘B’ but I don’t recall why. Is the B harness labeled perhaps. I did not mark the other two since I think those were positioned further apart and more obvious.

B in the middle (vertical) sounds logical. Question is which side (looking from front of cluster) is A vs. C. Either way it would be A,B,C but I'm thinking more likely A on the left (looking from the back). Anybody else know?

There is a post in the thread below that suggests that the C connector is the one on the right when looking forward at the cluster.
