I'm talking about the retractable shade cover for the hatch. What is in the end that the hooks screw into? Is that a plastic slat or wooden slat? Mine appears to be broken in several places and the one hook pulled out. Is there any way to repair it?

IIRC, I believe it is a piece of aluminum bar. You would have to open the end of the shade, pull out the pieces and create a new one to same length. Using the holes in the cover, make appropriate marks with sharpie to drill pilot hole to be able to run the screws through the hook and cover into the new bar.

I did this about 6 months ago. Mine was plastic. I went to a local plastic company and they made me a new one for $20.00 It would have been cheaper but that is their minimum charge

I think the original piece is plastic.
Mine broke at the place where the hooks attach (both ends).
I used small bolts with fender washers (the really big washers) and just bolted them into place.
The break seems to be where the holes for the hooks are, so the fender washers & bolts hold the plastic slat/bar/whatever fairly well.
It doesn't look perfect, but then again, neither does the whole car.

Went to the hardware store tonight and found this wooden slat that is made for doing screens. It was a bit wide, so cut it down to size. Perfect thickness. Wood should be better than plastic. I think the heat destroys it. I could barely bend the old plastic without it cracking.
