Pressure Plate Clamping Force?
Anyone here know the clamping forces of the 944na and the 944S/S2?
Apparently , all of the other clutch parts are the same. So... maybe the only diff in the two setups is the pressure plate... and, that pressure plate may have a higher clamping force making it a relatively inexpensive upgrade for those cars under heavier use.

I assume you're talking factory parts here. Somewhere back in my younger days, I think I was told by someone with alot more knowledge than I, that they're the same patrs with different numbers. If I was going to all the trouble to change a clutch, I put the best avilable in there, meaning, IMHO, a Centerforce sprung hub.

The factory specs for the 944 pressure plate is a contact pressure of 1370-1530 pounds. The 951 pp has a contact pressure of 1960-2140 pounds. Of course, they don't give the specs for an S or S2 pressure plate, which is what you are really looking for.

Thanks for the info - I also think I know that the 968 PP is 2300-2500 (same as early 964) with an optional sport plate from the 965 that is 3100-3300.
Any idea what the Centerforce is rated at?

Well, from what I've seen, Centerforce claims 80-90% more clamping pressure than stock for their 951 Dual-Friction clutch kit. So using Don's numbers, that would be 3528 to 4066 lbs. My car came with the updated Cup clutch and it ended up lasting 40K-miles. Part of the quick demise in the last 10K was probably due to the Huntley MAF-4/Turbo-2 upgrade I put in which roughly doubled the stock torque. I replaced that with the Centerforce Dual-Friction kit and so far, it's got 80K-miles on it. When I tore the engine apart to rebuild, I measured the clutch disc and it was only 1/2 worn, so I'd have to conclude that the Centerforce clutch will last 4x as long as the Cup clutch on the 951.
