Default SPROING! Phobia

Definition: Fear of parts flying across the garage when you try to compress or release a spring with a threaded cap while laying flat on your back with the car's floorpan 4 inches above your nose .

Now for the particulars. PET shows that the oil thermostat (968s, and I think late 951s and 944 s2s) is trapped in a cavity in the oil filter block-manifold thingy by a long coil spring and a threaded plug. There is a metal seal under the plug flange. Looks like my oil LEAK is coming from there. I've got the new seal, I just don't have the courage (its the Sproing! Phobia thing).

Has anyone disassembled this? Any difficulty getting all of the parts back? Give me your Sproing rating: 0, 1, 2,...OMG! Sproings! per reassembly.

Remember, I'm flat on my back with the car's floorpan 4 inches above my nose.
