Default Adding A/C to a A/C Delete car...

I may have an opportunity to purchase a fine '86 N/A 944 from the original owner...but to avoid jinxing my self i wont say anymore. This car originally came with no A/C as an option, my father wants to know if its within reason to retrofit the system in. Personally, i can live without it...but hes afraid resale value if i ever want to sell would be tought to negotiate. Ill tell you this right now though, if i manage to get this car, i wont be selling it anytime soon.

I am no wealth of info on that subject. but I would say that it would be expensive as hell to do on one that didn't have AC to start with. You'd need all of the AC parts (condenser, pump, canister, hoses, brackets, wiring, etc) plus I would imagine the control unit in the dash is different. You'd have to amass all of those parts, put it together properly, and get it to function and handle a charge. Sounds like $$$.

Bump.

Ha ha ha. Oh, man. The threads on this list about deleting AC, and someone wants to ADD it to a factory AC delete car. Wheee. This is going to be fun.

Seriously. Buy it and sell it at a profit to someone who wants AC delete. Take that money and buy a 944 with AC.

Just buy it and enjoy. When/if you want to sell try to sell it to a racer or autocrosser. Should be a premium on it with no AC. Especiallyl for "stock" classes.

Tell your dad that with no AC the market is marginally smaller but there are many inthat market that will pay a premium for it. When he looks at you like you have 3 heads, remind him what an auto trans does to the value of a 944 vs other cars.
My first instinct was to offer to swat your non AC parts for my complete AC system, but then I thought about how much work that would be!

If you can document that the car came from the factory without A/C and that it wasn't a dealer delete, club racers would be all over this car as a basis for a track car. If it is clean and hasn't been wrecked, buy it NOW!

What Bryan said - don't bother trying to add A/C after the fact. I've checked into it for two of the cars I've owned and it's ridiculously expensive. Aftermarket kits are junk and don't work (I tried one). I've only heard of it being done successfully once on a 1986 Dodge Daytona that my brother owned and it cost the P.O. over 2,000. And that was in about 1995 or so.

BUY IT I'm trying to get rid of my AC once I get the bracket and I'm almost done getting my manual rack in. Someone will come along later on and be looking for a car without AC and will pay you the price of the car. It's a rare option like no sunroof.

Very desireable option.
If later on you decide you must have A/C, buy all the parts from somebody deleting their A/C, probably get them cheap, but keep all the A/C delete parts to restore it for resale.

The circumstances leading up to the possible purchase of this car are almost too good to be true actually. Ill save the story for another day (unless you all are dying to know...). I talked with the owner briefly who is actually a friend of my fathers, he said he choose to not purchase the a/c due to the price at the time. The car sits in his garage and is driven about once a week around the block and its been like this pretty much since he bought it in 1986. If i were to buy this, i wouldnt even bother adding A/C...its just basically to make my father feel better if you catch my drift.

He was a little hesitant to sell at first when i talked with him, but he called my father back about 20 minutes later asking if we wanted to take a look at it tomorrow.

So I guess your dad wouldn't understand that a factory non-sunroof car may be consider more desirable by many, huh?

Actually I'm going to keep all the stuff I take off from that and sell the car with boxes full of spare parts.
