Debating on 944fest
#16
I drove from Kansas City last year without functioning A/C, and would drive twice the distance to do it again. Its that much fun, and definitely well worth it. Dan, you put too much pressure on yourself! Let some others help out this year. If I can earn enough domestic credits by then, I will be there again this year, so anyone who wants to meet in KC and caravan with me is welcome (um, tenatively, anyway... refer back to the domestic credit comment!). Be prepared to drive, tho... I'm not known for taking the scenic route in the right hand lane. I'll bet a few of last years participants would vouch for me.
Also, heads up... this is the first announcement, but the KC Wrenching Society has decided to host a 944Fest-like party of our own, in the Lake of the Ozarks Sept 24-26. Its located in central Missouri, so its an easy three hour trip for people located in St Louis, Kansas City, Wichita, and Tulsa. Its got some amazingly beautiful scenery and great driving roads, with lots of hotels/resorts/camping, so persons of all budgets should be able to find suitable accommodations. We will be posting more about this on a separate thread soon, so lets not hijack this one (um, like I guess I just did... sorry Dan!). If you have questions or are interested in finding out more, email me at sh944@rennlist.com or check out www.kcws.org.
944Fest, and more to the point, Dan, ROCK!
Regards,

Yeah, if you consider seeing a bunch (hopefully 50+) of nice 944's and cruising the countryside with them, drinking a few by the campfire (or bonfire, depending on if our pyromaniacs show again this year), and like Sam says, meeting some cool friends and putting faces to the names and cars we see on here all the time that live for their cars, then I would say:
YES,
it is worth driving wherever you can to do this. I think to most of us this will become a pilgrammage. And it's not just because it is close to my location. I also hope to drive to some other events, such as the one Scott is planning, as others start having them. We have to spread the gospel according to Dan P.

Whatcha think, plan two sets that last one hour each, or just have a bunch of tunes ready and see what feels good? Shall we try to have a small PA on hand, or just bonfire it?

I think just bonfire it. No use in anyone having to travel too heavy or have to got through a lot of set-up hassle. And the "having a bunch of tunes ready" idea sounds good, too. We can compare notes beforehand on what we may have ready so there can be some collaboration, but I like to sit back sometimes and not play and just be entertained by others. I still think about that cool Badfinger tune you pulled out last year. THAT'S what I'm talking about.
