broken screws that mount up passenger foglight
I forgot to mention this the night i was prepping the car for paint yesterday. We had trouble removing the foglight on the passenger side because the moronic PO had LOCTITED the foglight screws into the rear mount. So we had to drill out the screws to remove the foglight. One of the screws is broken into the rear mount housing behind the foglight and there is no stud poking out. The other screw has the head drilled off it and the stud is poking out. When the car comes back from paint I will work on it. I have 2 choices:
1) attempt to drill and rethread the plastic holes (if possible) without breaking the mounting points since they protrude out of the housing.
2) remove and replace the housing with a used part from the wrecking yard. This will involve removing the 4 screws that are rusted and corroded also from behind the front spoiler..I attempted to do that just by sliding my hand underneath with a phillips and couldn't do it because they were also stuck solid.
looks like i'm screwed both ways....what should i do???

Just FWIW, on stripped out housings, I've seen body shops attach the fog lamps to the housing using long sheet metal screws! If you can't get the broken screws out and if you can find adjacent solid areas to secure new screws, it maybe worth a try.

I found some stuff in Auto Zone called QuickSteel. It's an epoxy based putty that can be drilled and tapped according to what the label says. I think I'll try this when I get it back. BTW anyone ever used QuickSteel before???

not that it helps with your problem this time, i've seen those screws corrode themselves into one nasty connection. i just had mine out yesterday and put some anti-seize on the screws when re-installing just to be sure.
