Yep, I was investigating the lamp holder and sure enough the light comes on when I bumped the plunger to the all the way out position. Put a little vaseline on it to let it move more easily. Didn't even have to buy a bulb. Triscadek is a genius!

Yeah? Here's another smart one. After I bought a new underhood light switch, I found out that if I turned on the parking lights my old light would have worked.

For some reason I prefer to learn things the hard way.

Actually, I am starting to hate Paul...
Got his hatch fixed relatively cheap, when I exploded mine, AND the kicker...
I have been messing with the wiring for the underhood bulb now, at various times, for probably 10-15 hours, trying to figure out where I was losing my 12volts, even with the hood up.
Went downstairs in my underwear this morning, turned on the Parking Lights, and WHALLLA, I have a working light. Pardon me while I go hang myself....... Thanks Triska, that was great! I have skimmed the owners manual, but I guess not thoroughly enough!

triscadek, you are the man! I just replaced that bulb and was disappointed that it didn't seem to be the reason that the light wouldn't come on. I was not psyched about investigating that one further.

iceshark, you are also the man! Is there anything about the 944 electrical system that you don't know?
