Default where to get magnetic door numerals?

I just priced the magnetic numerals to stick on your door for autocross or DE or whatever - only $150 for a set of three numbers and three letters (for class). Holy ****? Like I have that kind of money laying around......

have you guys made your own numerals or letters? where did you get the magnetic sheets to do so? I have looked at several hobby shops (Hobby Lobby, Michaels), but they only carry the thin, wimpy magnetic sheets

Go to any sign shop (check the phone book) and simply buy the material from them. They should have the thicker material magnetic sheet.

I work at one of those stores (ACMoore), and I know the magnetic sheets you're talking about. I don't know if you've ever attached them to the side of a car, but they hold pretty good. Good enough that they won't fall off or blow off at speed. Actually the lightweight ones work better as there's less mass for the magnet to hold, and less of a lip for the wind to grab. The magnets are just as strong.

Edit: On a side note I've used those magnetic sheets on my car. Not at a DE or anything, but just going down the highway they held just fine up to like 80mph or so.

Go to an arts and crafts store e.g. Michaels, Hobby town and buy a magnetic sheet. You can cut out your own numbers or do what I did and use a stencil to spray paint the numbers on the sheet itself. I think the sheet cost me less than $8.

I made them myself. Grab a magnetic sheet, print out stencils, use pins to hold them while you trace. Then use an exacto knife to cut them out. Spray the desired color. Mile look really good, took a few hours but worth it.

This was discussed just last week on the racing/DE forum. There, I detailed my process for making really sharp looking numbers for about $15.00 a pair.

Here's a shot of my numbers on my car:

I have made up two styles. Both used mag sheeting from sign shop.

First was cut out method. I used my printer to print the numbers I wanted. Printed them out. Then taped mag sheet and traced the number. Worked fine, but took a bit of time. Very cheap

For my fiance's autocross car I went a little more formal. I made-up a simple number board graphic. I then had it cut in black vynal. I then attached the decal to the white mag sheet. These look just like the number boars on my race car and very professional. Cost was more since I had to have the graphic cut. I'll look for a pic.

thanks for the tips - i actually purchased a 24"x24" sheet of colored 30 mil magnetic sheeting from eDecals.com. cost was $35 including shipping. now i can do my own numbers and letters.

i tried those magnetic sheets from the hobby stores before, but the sheets i bought were too thin and the edges curled a little after being cut
