timing belt, how often?

I've only had my car for a month, got the belts changed recently - the belts were over 80,000 km (50K miles) old when I got the car! Good thing I got them changed when I did...

My S2 has 7 years but only 10000km/6500miles on them. Do you really think the 3 years limit should be used for my car?

I personally feel it's 2 years, or 60K miles, WHICHEVER comes first!!!

I suspect this is why my other car is not on the road...um, I never changed it but once, in 1991, and didn't know to change it, or when the intervals where, back then.
