Default I got lucky (fixing the cruise control)

On my 1991 944S2:

Symptoms before:
- No response when pressing cruise lever
- Cruise immediately speeds up 10mph when it does engage

Actions:
- Removed cruise control board above hood release
- Noticed many, many solder points on board and almost gave up.
- Re-soldered maybe 25 points that looked dull

Results:
- It works now! The only catch is that when I press the lever forward to speed up, the accelerator pedal 'pulses' maybe once a second as the car speeds up. That part feels odd, but it does work.

Could anyone tell me what might be the problem with the pulsing acceleration? Maybe I should clean the servo in the engine compartment?

thanks,
Bryan

I had the same problem, however upon removing the board from the aluminum case, I snapped the board in half!

I removed the board and coulnd't really see any bad solder joints.

Are they REALLY obvious?

If it's not the brain - what's the next thing to check?

I have same symproms - moving control lever has no effect 90% of the time - once in a great while, trying to set it will make the car accelerate - but the speed will not hold.

I took mine to a CB radio repair shop and got it resoldered for $10. Works fine now.

Second post I have seen that mentioned resoldering the contacts and unit worked. Mine does not work and I don't care at this point. When I get time I will have a look. So sorry Bryan not much use to you now.

Triscadek, you told me about the gas warning light. Today I finally drove mine down until it came on. Nice yellow light. I had a gas can in the back just in case the bulb was no good! Thanks.

I looked several time at the gauge and did not see anything that looked like a light. Does not come on at ignition switch test. I did not believe it was there until I read your post. I will never doubt you again!

Sorry Bryan about the hijack.
