Check for vacuum leaks...i just battled a problem like this for about 2 weeks. Make sure your intake manifold bolts are tight, check your J boot for rips. Spray carefully with carb cleaner around hose ends, if the idle increases, you got a leak there.

Good call Carl. Vacuum leaks if bad enough will cause this as well.. Check to see if the AFM plug slipped out.. oops, that's high idle..
Sid you have a PM.

Well trying the FPR was worth it. I don't think it is the coil, but it could be. If the coil is bad it does not look to me like it would run at 3000 or higher RPM's. I will try it. It does act like a vacuum leak, but I can't find one. I am leaning toward it being the DME. It possibly could be one of the sensors.
Whatever it is it was running great one day and wasn't the next. It was like someone flipped a switch. I seem to get all the problems that are difficult to find. Makes it interesting.

Tried a new coil today and that is not the problem.
Took the plugs out and from the black color it looks like the mixture is very rich. What would change from running great one day to where it won't run the next and has started running rich if it will run at all. Not sure if it is a fuel or spark problem. Any suggestions appreciated.

i am having the same problem with my car.. having to press the gas to start the car.. i replaced the fuel pump and it was a little better and am going to change the fuel filter if i can get the damn lines off.. the lines are stuck on there too tightly..

You said you pulled the battery for a repair there? I assume you were sealing a leak? not much else under there. If you did that and welded and did not disconect the DME that is right under that spot.. you could have either shorted the DME or dripped something down there.. Also the bundle of wires leaving underneath there could have been disturbed and maybe you just need the reseat the dme pin connector... disconect the batt before you reseat the terminal to the DME...

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner around ALL your vacuum lines, including the ones running under the intake? Could have had an old hose crack, since they are so brittle, it is not a problem that would come on gradually, it would be all of a sudden.
