I'm right in the middle of my timing belt/waterpump change and I just picked up the balance shaft belt to install it when I noticed it was not as wide as the one I took out! Is this a problem...did I get the wrong one? I got the kit from Ian at 944online so I figured it would all be right.

Anybody help me out?

There were two different widths used, I think 15mm and 18mm. Not sure if they are interchangable, but all the parts listings I have show only one part number for this belt for all years. I personally would feel better replacing it with the wider belt (I just changed mine and it was the 18mm - '87 951).

 

Anyone else know if they are interchangable? If they are, should I put the wider one on or does it matter that much?

 

You picked up an early belt somehow. Go back and exchange it for a wider version.
