well, if they continued their scheme with of the 968 turbo rs, yould find nothing faster

God I'm in love with that new Lotus. I could see me ending up delaying a lot of my future plans by buying one of them.

Most definitely. ONLY car I can see worth making myself a slave to payments.

Funny how this got turned into a "NO NEW CARS!" thread back there on page 3 or 4. Anycow, y'all don't seem to get it that barring the low end 1.8T from Audi/VW, there isn't gonna be any 3 liter turbo dream car. Costs are what costs are. Barring the cult-ish (albeit, AMAZING) Elise, cars makers aren't going to sell a bunch of $35K strippers. They probably won't sell a bunch of them at $25K, either. Why, when a $25 RX8 has power this and that and still weighs in at 2900 pounds?

Mitsu got it right with their Evo RS. Stripped, reduced weight, increased track performance, ultimate sleeper, and CHEAPER. But as mentioned before, it's hard to keep up with American safety requirements AND light weight. Mazda should REALLY do an RS'd RX8. Rotary power, 9000 rpm and what, 2600 pounds?? Yikes! I'd bet that IF Porsche built a "new" 914 that it would still weight in around 2500-2600 pounds. Which isn't bad, when you think about it. Sign a deal with Subie and stick the boxer 4 in it and hang on!

What we're really wishing for here is a new, front engined GT (a la 944/951). With the move to the big GT class emminent, the possibility of a smaller Porsche GT is there. But again, I don't think it'd be a stripped out model. Maybe a stripped out option, but seeing as how they can't (or WON'T) sell one for under $25-30K, I don't think they can sell a bunch. A car like that would be capable, but let's face it, Porsche (and EVERY car maker) isn't in the business to lose money. Personally, I think they finally started getting it right with the 968 in 3 different levels of spec (sport, club sport and S, right??).

Hybrids are also gaining steam, too. A gas/hydro car would be cool to see from Stuttgart. Mazda's rotary REALLY lends itself well to hydrogen fuel, which in my opinion, puts it at the front of the smaller GT class in 5 years. The future in that area will be who can build the hydro that still GOES FAST, in my opinion. But let's save that for the "Gas-Hungry SUV's WILL become exinct" thread...

Maybe if the 928 really replaced the 911 we'd still have 4 bangers being made by Porsche. Just a thought.

I still like my 18 year old 944 N/A, power isn't everything, to me, I enjoy the handling and balance and the enjoyment of working on my car. If there were a new Porsche front engine 4 cylinder? I love to see it happen first before I even think about wanting or buying one.
