Need a press. Have to support the head so the guide is vertical in the press. The guide is pressed out from the combustion chamber side using a tool that fits inside the guide bore and shoulders on the end of the guide.

The outside of the tool is slightly smaller that the hole through the head. The inside of the tool a loose fit in the valve guide.

Reason is to keep the guide straight as it is pressed out. Don't want it to bend or colapse in the head bore.

The hole is checked to see if it's with in spec for diameter. If not the hole is reamed to the next size valve guide. Again a fixture is used to keep the reamer square with the valve seat.
