Question 83 944 Timing belt question

So I was looking at timing belts for my 1983 Porsche 944 on rock auto and I noticed that there were other high-performance options for timing belts and I was wondering if the high-performance option was worth the extra $30, or if anybody could guide me to their prefered option for timing belt that would be helpful as well. Thanks.

I'm guessing you are referring to the Gates Kevlar timing belt (blue). I'm all for them and think they are quality but my issue is that you can't get a balance shaft belt of the same material. If I were to pay more for a "better" belt, I would want both to match as far as materials go.

True, but the motor will still run with no damage to anything if the balance shaft belt fails... Plus you can replace that belt Super easy compared to the cam belt..

That is, unless the balance shaft belt decides to take the cam belt out along with it, obviously.

The rollers get old and disintegrate also. Are you looking to prolong belt change intervals?

thanks for all the response, I am just looking to prolong the belt change intervals, it's something that I don't want to have to worry about very often.

Regardless the belt you choose the belt change intervals remain the same. The only advantage of the more expensive Kevlar belt is that if you have a seized water pump it will take slightly longer to break the belt and that may give you time to turn the engine off and save a valve job.
