Alternative dash cover idea
So I got the dash out last night, and I was planning to re-cover it as long as it was out. I had a Coverlay on my last 944 (84 NA) and it only lasted one season, plus I think the Coverlay looked better on the old dash because of its lines.
I was reading about the leather/leatherette homemade covers someone was doing here a while ago, and the merits of carpet vs leather/plastic, and it got me thinking: could you do a dash cover in suede? It would be nonreflective and would look nicer than carpet, I'd think.
Anyone done this? Does suede have durability/cracking issues?

It has been done, you would want to use Alacantera (spelling may be off) but its very suede like but its what they use for dashes, seats, headliners, etc in OEM applications, if you could pull it off it could look great....

I also agree with Ian. Alcantara was used in the Lotus Esprit Sport 350's interior, and it is very nice. If done right, I think this could work well in a 944's interior, also.
