Unhappy cost of repairs

I'm thinking of having a local Porsche shop do the front end engine work for me. I was thinking of water pump (updated type), thermostat, timing belt, balance shaft belt, all rollers and tensioners, and oil seals and flush the radiator. They want $1750 to do the work , plus any hoses that might need to be changed. Does this sound like a fair price?

Thanks.

E.T.

I do work on quite a few of the local 44/51 cars and can do way better then that if you're interested. That seems like a don jackson or stuttugart price.

I'll second that...and he's very reasonable with his prices, unlike the "heavy hitters".

He is putting together a really sweet motor for my 951 right now. It will be replacing the high dollar Las Vegas shop "grenade" that the previous owner pulled the pin on.

I've seen his work, and highly recommend it.

Hey Jeremy, what would you want to do the front belts, rollers, seals, and (maybe) H2O pump on mine - hell, I'd drive it out to Phoenix from LA if the price was right! I wouldn't even mind helping with some of the work, I'm just trying to not get bufu-ed by the dealership. Plus the thought of driving a finely-tuned 944 through the desert with the roof off and the radio on sounds kind of like a great time to me!

thanks for the responses everyone!
i'm glad i asked before jumping into this face first.

Jeremy, where are you located? Let's get together to see what we can do.
I'm in north Phoenix/Glendale.
When and where would be a good place to meet.
I'm a little nervous to drive too far. The car has been under a tarp since October when I spotted a puddle under what thought might be the water pump area. Multiple family medical problems have kept me from doing much about it until now.

Porsche-O-Phile ,

I'm flattered but it wouldn't be worth your time. For the seven or eight hundred bucks you save I'd hate to run into a snag and keep you overnight or god forbid have a new part fail on your way home and leave you stranded on I 10. If you decide to tackle this job yourself your more then welcome to call me for support.

E.T.,

I'm on 71st ave and Cactus. You can take a trip to my house to check stuff out. I have three 951's in various states of carnage. I can also take a look at your car and tell you what you need. i have all of the p-car specific tools and have done the job many times. I'll PM you my phone number and don't hold it against me if i talk you into a 951.
